Can a CPU melt but still functions in the long run

Today is very rotten day, fried power supply and replacement got its cable 
Boo-B-Q
stuck inside CPU fan, as a result from that temperature shot up to 115+

and emergency shutdown, now this very machine runs now but l wonder if the

edge of it melted onto the board and if it still would run fine few months

The machine is Athlon 64 X2, heat management as

far as l can tell is off, l did smell barbeque from it when it emergency

I've seen computers overheat before like that and they ran

overheating smell is probably the fans motor burning out. Keep an eye on

115+, C or F??? If Celsius, your CPU is dead. It should have

shut down at about 75 C. If it is doing anything at all, it is just

If Fahrenheit, continue to use it. If it hiccups, burps or acts weird any

The Machine will still run fine, it did the emergency shutdown

vital cable, not one that has a twin such as a molex connector, then I

sugges you could cut it away from the fan, (if you cannot remove it cos  
the cables melted) & connect the two new ends together with one of those  
block connectors, or twist them & put some insulation tape on the join.  
That should solve it & ur motherboard should work. For goodness sake make

your heat gel is probably fried underneath the heat sink, check

that first if it is then there may be permenant damage
