i have an IDE maxtor HD that i have coonected to my comp via IDE to USB cable but cannot see the drive. Help
IT is not showing in computer management console or in the my computer
folder as a mass storage device. l have the jumper set as the master.

I don't think your drive should be on the master jumper, but
rather slave. The master is for the boot (C:/) drive.
If you change the jumper and still can not read it, go to drivers.com to
analyze the problem. Driver updates are available there.

You probably need to enable the IDE controller in the BIOS
settings. Go to the BIOS setup screen, available on when the computer is
first booted.
well 1st thing check the connections
restarting may help
and see tht u have not disabled the drives
You may need the proper driver for ur external harddrive USB
device, especially if you are using an older operating system (like
Windows 98).
Look in ur Device Manager (In Control Panel under System, then the
Hardware tab). See if there are any generic USB devices recognized by
Windows that could be ur external harddrive device. If you see it, check to see if there is a question mark beside it, which would indicate that the driver needs to be installed. Also try different USB ports & USB cables to make sure none of those have gone bad. Restarting sometimes works miracles. =) Hope this helps!
